Participants will need to arrange their own transfers between the airport or train station to their hotels.
It is highly recommended to arrange international arrivals and departures to Japan to/from Kansai International Airport (KIX) located in Osaka.
From Kansai International Airport to Kyoto
The closest international gateway to Kyoto is Kansai International Airport (KIX). The airport is located in Osaka Bay, around 100 kilometres from Kyoto.

There are various ways to get to and from the Kansai International Airport. One of the easiest and fastest options to go from this airport to Kyoto is the train. However, there are other options that may suit you better depending on the time of your journey and other circumstances.
By train
The Limited Express Haruka operated by JR West is the only rail service between Kyoto Station and Kansai International Airport. It covers the distance in about 75 minutes stopping at Osaka City’s Shin-Osaka Station and Tennoji Station on the way.
At Kansai Airport Station the Haruka departs from platform 4. At Kyoto Station the Haruka departs mainly from platform 30, though some early trains depart from platforms 6 and 7.
The earliest train from KIX to Kyoto departs at 6:30 on weekdays and at 6:40 on weekends. The last train from KIX to Kyoto departs at 22:16. Please check the following link for further information on the timetable: www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/timetable/
By bus
A bus runs regular services between KIX and Kyoto Station’s Hachijo-guchi and it covers the distance in about 105 minutes. Ticket windows are open by these bus stops at which you can buy tickets. Tickets cannot be reserved and boarding is on a first-come, first-served basis.
At the airport you can board buses at bus stop 8 on the first floor of Terminal 1, and bus stop 1 at Terminal 2. You will be able to check the bus stop location here.
The earliest bus from Terminal 1 of the airport to Kyoto departs at 6:10 and the last bus from KIX to Kyoto at 22:55. Check timetables on the Kansai Airport website for details here.
By taxi
The Yasaka Taxi and MK Taxi companies run affordable and convenient shuttle services between Kyoto and Kansai International Airport. The journey can take around 120 minutes, depending on traffic.
The average fare during the day is approximately 30,800 JPY (around 280 USD) but the final price may vary depending on the companies. Late night charges are also applicable to the above fare. Further information can be found here.
From Itami Airport and Kyoto
Itami Airport only handles domestic flights. A bus runs regular services between Itami and Kyoto Station’s Hachijo-guchi and it covers the distance in about 50 to 55 minutes.

From other cities to Kyoto by Shinkansen (Bullet train)
Participants could also arrive to Kyoto from the following train stations located at Tokyo, Nagoya and Hakata by the bullet train known as Shinkansen.
From Tokyo Station to Kyoto
Take a west bound Shinkansen from platforms 14 to 19. The quickest option via Nozomi train takes less than 2 hours and a half to Kyoto. Please refer to the following websites for the timetables:
